Downer cows hit food supply, probably eaten by school kids. Largest recall to date

The New York Times has a story about the largest ground beef recall to date following the release of an undercover video the Human Society released showing downer cows passing inspection in California.

Agency Orders Largest Recall of Ground Beef

Downer cows (cattle that can’t lift themselves to stand) can indicate infection with Mad Cow Disease.
This beef hit schools, that’s right, officials say that this ground beef was probably eaten by kids as a part of school lunch programs.

As the video shows, workers at the facility worked pretty hard to get those cattle standing for the brief moments it takes to inspect.
