22. Owen's Corral Creek, BLM
Land Manager: BLM, Burley Field Office
Legal Location: T 15S R 21E Section 15 Cassia County
Allotment: #4093 Goose Creek-Poulton
Dominant Plant Community Type: Shrub-Grass/Shrub-Juniper
Impacts: Cumulative impacts from livestock utilization have severely altered this small creek flow. Utilization impacts have led to severe down-cutting and a lowering of the water table. Utilization has also resulted in loss of the riparian structure and loss of the riparian greenline. Trampling has disrupted the small creek flow in the bottom of the channel.
Recommendations: Livestock should be withdrawn from this location until substantial levels of riparian recovery and regeneration have been achieved. Willows and other riparian species need to reach a height of 6 feet or more before they can withstand short duration grazing impacts. Recovery should also include substantial levels of bank stabilization, which may require more than the minimum 3-6 years.
