2. Bull Spring

Land Manager: Sawtooth National Forest
Legal Location: T 13S R 24E Section 31 Cassia County
Forest Division: Albion Mountain

Dominant Plant Community Type: Aspen-Shrub/Conifer

Impacts: Cumulative impacts from livestock utilization have severely degraded this spring site. Utilization has been concentrated directly within the multiple zones of emergence. A trough is present directly within the spring site. This has led to severe impacts to the hydric region and to the adjacent habitat. Understory removal has been severe. Trampling and disturbance of the hydric region and spring flows have initiated down-cutting and head-cutting. Water quality has been seriously degraded.

Recommendations: It is recommended that livestock be permanently excluded from this location, as well as from a large portion of the adjacent habitat. Water developments should be moved away from the spring location. This site would benefit from mitigation efforts such as the planting of appropriate riparian species.

List of Figures:

1. Severe impacts to hydric soils and spring flow.

2. Severe soil disturbance and vegetation removal.
