This is a bad news message from Roger Featherstone of Defenders about the BLM acting out the good old days protecting rancher interests as if it were in the public interest !!

Please contact your Congressionals now about stopping this bad rider !

Folks,

We have learned that the BLM has asked Congress to insert a grazing
rider into the Interior Appropriations bill.  It's bad enough for
extractive industries and their minions in Congress to push for anti-
environmental riders, but for the agencies themselves to do so is
worse.  The rider would allow the grazing industry to continue to graze
on expired leases for up to two years if the BLM has not completed
required NEPA analysis on the allotment/s covered by the lease.

We don't know how or when to expect this rider, but we wanted to get
this information to you as soon as possible to fight it before it is a
"done deal."  Please contact your Congressional delegation and ask them
to oppose this rider - and any other anti-environmental riders.

We will give you more details as they are available on this, or any
other attempt, to undermine laws protecting public lands from the
grazing industry.

Please note:  We are now in the thick of the Congressional
appropriations process.  As we expect many riders to surface at a
moments notice, we will undoubtedly be sending you more action alerts
than you need.  Please bear with us during this onslaught and do what
you can to help fight off these riders.  One way to lighten the load of
these alerts would be to quickly develop a small group of friends and
colleagues to share the work required to stop anti-environmental
